This Privacy Policy explains how the AsNavigators program handles personal information collected through its navigation service.
AsNavigators is delivered by registered nurses engaged through participating hospitals or telehealth partner organisations.
Navigator Nurses may be employed by hospitals, health services or by a telehealth partner organisation. All personal information is handled in accordance with the privacy, security and clinical governance requirements of the organisation that employs the nurse, including when services are delivered through telehealth.
The funders of the initiative, The Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics Australia (FAST Australia) does not collect, access or store personal or health information relating to AsNavigators enquiries or appointments. All information is managed directly by the Navigator Nurses and handled under the privacy, security and governance policies of the organisation that employs or hosts the Navigator Nurse.

- online enquiry forms
- email transmissions completed through the website
- interactions with Navigator Nurses via phone, email, in-person or telehealth
- referrals and information coordination undertaken by Navigator Nurses
- What personal information is collected
Personal information is collected directly by the Navigator Nurses, not by FAST Australia.
The types of information collected may include:
Information you provide to the Navigator Nurse
- name, contact details and preferred communication methods
- information about the person with Angelman syndrome (age, diagnosis, support needs)
- details provided through enquiries, bookings or discussions
- information shared during navigation appointments
- documents you choose to provide (e.g., reports, letters, plans)
Sensitive information
With your consent, Navigator Nurses may collect health information such as:
- relevant medical history
- current supports or clinical providers
- communication, behavioural or functional information
Sensitive information is only collected where reasonably necessary to provide navigation support.
- How personal information is collected
Information is collected directly by Navigator Nurses through:
- online enquiry forms (submitted directly to the Navigator Nurse’s secure work email)
- booking forms routed to the nurse’s host organisation
- email or phone contact
- telehealth and in-person appointments
- documents you voluntarily provide
FAST Australia does not view or store this information.
- How information is used
Navigator Nurses use personal information to:
- respond to enquiries
- book and manage navigation appointments
- support families in understanding available services
- help connect you with relevant clinical, disability or community providers
- coordinate information or referrals at your request
- meet organisational governance, reporting or risk requirements
Navigator Nurses do not provide diagnosis, medical treatment or therapeutic advice.
- How information is stored and protected
All personal information is stored and protected by the organisation employing or hosting the Navigator Nurse, in accordance with their legal and clinical governance obligations, which may include:
- the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth)
- the Australian Privacy Principles
- applicable State and Territory Health Records Acts
- hospital or health service privacy and security policies
- secure clinical email systems
- encrypted telehealth platforms
- role-based access controls
Examples include:
- a hospital’s internal privacy, cyber security and records management framework
- the telehealth provider’s secure data environment and policies
Where navigation support is delivered by a telehealth nurse, personal information is stored and managed in accordance with the telehealth provider’s privacy policies, data security standards and any relevant State or Territory health information laws.
FAST Australia does not store or access personal information collected through AsNavigators.
- Disclosure of information
Navigator Nurses may disclose personal information:
- with your consent
- to clinical or community services at your request
- within their employing organisation where required for governance, supervision or quality systems
- to external providers where necessary to arrange referrals or service coordination
Your information is not provided to FAST Australia unless you directly choose to share it with FAST Australia separately.
Navigator Nurses and their employer organisations do not sell, trade or rent personal information.
Telehealth Navigator Nurses may disclose information internally within their telehealth organisation where required for governance, supervision, quality assurance or safety.

The AsNavigators website may use cookies or analytics tools to understand website usage and improve accessibility.
This does not identify you unless you submit a form.
No analytics data is linked to any health information.
- Access and correction
To access or correct information collected by a Navigator Nurse, you will need to contact the employing organisation that holds the record.

- Children and young people
Parents or authorised carers may provide information relating to children.
Information is not collected directly from minors.
- Complaints
Privacy complaints relating to navigation services should be submitted to the employer or host organisation responsible for storing the information.
