Associate Professor (A/P) Heussler has over 30 years’ experience as a medical practitioner and specialises as a Developmental Paediatrician and Sleep Physician. She has held multiple clinical and academic appointments in Australia and internationally, including five years at the University of Nottingham (UK) as a Lecturer in Community Child and Public Health.
A/P Heussler completed her Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Nottingham in 2008 and undertook post-FRACP training in Sleep Medicine. Her postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education from the University of Nottingham informed her ongoing involvement in medical education. She led the Academic Department of the Mater Children’s Hospital for three years prior to its closure in 2010 and the transition of children’s services to Children’s Health Queensland.
Since 2010, A/P Heussler has served as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Queensland School of Medicine and as the Medical Lead for the Child Development Department and Child and Youth Community Health Services at Children’s Health Queensland. She has a longstanding interest in genetic disorders and behavioural phenotypes and currently Chairs the International Society for the Study of Behavioural Phenotypes. She also directs the Centre for Clinical Trials in Rare Neurodevelopmental Disorders (CCTRND), where she is involved in a growing program of clinical trials for several genetic conditions.
